Who is Jesus?
Maybe you've seen a church in Battambang, or a friend has told you about Jesus, and you've wondered what it's all about. You're welcome here — questions and all. Here is the story of Jesus, simply told.

- 1
God made you and loves you
The Bible says there is one God who created everything — the rivers, the rice fields and you. You are not an accident. God knows your name and loves you like a perfect Father.
John 3:16
- 2
Something is broken
We all know the world isn't the way it should be — and neither are we. The Bible calls this sin: going our own way instead of God's. Sin separates us from God, and no amount of good deeds can fully repair it.
Romans 3:23
- 3
Jesus came to us
About 2,000 years ago, God came to earth as a man — Jesus. He was born in Asia, lived among ordinary people, healed the sick, welcomed outcasts and taught about the love of God. He showed us exactly what God is like.
John 1:14
- 4
He died and rose again
Jesus never sinned, yet he chose to die on a cross to pay the debt of our sin. Three days later he rose from the dead — hundreds of people saw him alive. Death could not hold him.
1 Corinthians 15:3–6

A free gift for you
Forgiveness and new life aren't earned — they're received. When we trust Jesus and turn to him, God forgives us completely, makes us his children, and gives us his Spirit to live in us. This is the freedom Jesus offers.
Ephesians 2:8–9
Why Jesus? A gentle word for our Buddhist friends
Most of us at Freedom Church grew up in Buddhist families. We love Cambodia, and we deeply respect our parents, our culture and the good that Buddhism teaches — compassion, honesty, not harming others. We don't share this to argue or to look down on anyone. We share it because we found something we believe is true, and we'd be bad friends to keep it to ourselves.
Merit, or a gift?+
Many of us grew up making merit, hoping our good deeds would one day outweigh our bad karma — but never knowing if we had done enough. Jesus offers something different: he paid the debt himself. Forgiveness is not a reward for the good; it's a gift for the guilty. You can know you are forgiven today.
A teacher who showed a path, or the Path himself?+
The Buddha was a wise teacher who never claimed to be God; he pointed to a path. Jesus said something no other teacher said: “I am the way, the truth and the life.” He didn't just show the way to God — he claimed to be God, come to bring us home.
Escaping suffering, or God entering it?+
Cambodia knows suffering deeply. Buddhism teaches a way to release ourselves from suffering by letting go of desire. In Jesus, God did not stay far away — he came into our suffering, wept with the grieving and suffered on the cross himself. He understands your pain, and he promises a day when every tear will be wiped away.
Endless rebirth, or resurrection life?+
Buddhism describes a long cycle of birth and rebirth. The message of Jesus is that he walked out of his own grave — and that everyone who trusts him will be raised to a new, eternal life with God. Not a cycle, but a homecoming.
A law, or a Father?+
Karma is like a law — it is fair, but it cannot love you. Jesus reveals a God who is personal: a Father who runs to meet his lost children, who hears your prayers, and who wants a relationship with you.
You don't have to decide anything today. We simply invite you to read about Jesus for yourself, ask honest questions, and see if he is who he says he is.
Common questions
Isn't Christianity a Western religion?+
Jesus was born in the Middle East, in Asia — not in Europe or America. Today most Christians in the world live in Asia, Africa and Latin America, and Khmer believers have followed Jesus for generations.
If I follow Jesus, do I stop being Khmer?+
No. Following Jesus doesn't take away your language, your culture or your love for Cambodia. God made every nation, and he delights in Khmer worship, Khmer songs and Khmer families.
Can I still honour my parents and ancestors?+
Yes — the Bible commands us to honour our father and mother. Christians remember and respect those who have passed away with gratitude, while bringing our prayers to God alone.
My family is Buddhist. What will they think?+
This is a real and important question. Jesus calls us to love and honour our families even more, not less. We'd be glad to talk with you — and with your family — and walk with you patiently.
Do I have to be good enough first?+
No one is good enough — that's exactly why Jesus came. You can come to him just as you are. He changes us from the inside after we come, not before.
What is the Bible?+
The Bible is a collection of 66 books written over about 1,500 years, telling one story: God's love for people and his plan to rescue them through Jesus. It's available in Khmer — ask us for a free copy.
What is prayer?+
Prayer is simply talking with God — in Khmer, in your own words, anytime. You don't need special words or a special place. God listens.
What happens at church? Does it cost money?+
We sing songs to God, pray, and hear a message from the Bible. It's completely free. Guests are never expected to give — just come and see.
Who are the Father, Son and Holy Spirit?+
Christians believe in one God who exists as three persons — Father, Son (Jesus) and Holy Spirit. It's a mystery, but it means God is love in his very nature: a relationship he invites us into.
Want to begin?
If you want to trust Jesus, you can tell him right now. There are no magic words — here is a simple prayer you can use:
Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God, that you died for my sins and rose again. I'm sorry for going my own way. Please forgive me and make me new. I want to follow you. Thank you for loving me. Amen.
